Breaking the Ice: Bangkok Glass Design Competition

In this design competition, the goal is to design a new office complex for glass box manufacturer. The programmes included office space, showroom and apartments. The site located in residential area cosed to elevated highway in triangular shape with the longest side connect to the highway. As the request for this competition was to use glass box as main elements as many as possible, we think that there will be no difference to others if we take “number” as main consideration. We decide to twist the plot, instead of considering “amount of use”, we consider “how to use”: the quality of space by the use of glass box. We did wordplay with glass box appearance that looks like ice cube which recall us with the idom “ breaking the ice” which we think it is nice to be our concept. We propose the building that shows friendliness and inviting people to come. In breaking the ice with others, the applications including building orientation, ground floor set back, removable wall and interior opening which altogether aimed to connect the project to others in different levels: interior, architecture and urban. The glass box are applied on exterior and interior removable wall, making the building change its appearance during the day and night.
